VIDEO: A firefighter and a tenant were hurt in a Milwaukee apartment fire on June 1, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department. Residents told 12 News that the fire broke out around 2 a.m. near North 87th Street and West Villard Avenue.
12 News crew counted 12 firetrucks at the scene. Milwaukee Fire Chief, Aaron Lipski said 14 tenants were displaced. Both the firefighter and tenant suffered minor injuries. All other residents inside the building got out safely. One person told 12 News they had to leap from their balcony to escape the building. Lipski also said this apartment building did not have a sprinkler system. Less than ten hours later, another apartment fire near 45th Street and Hampton Avenue also displaced 23 tenants. That building also did not have a sprinkler system. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
