VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Woodside Fire that has been burning in the Monongahela National Forest since last week is now 75% contained, officials said Monday.
According to an update from the Monongahela National Forest, the fire that started in Pendleton County on Nov. 5 has burned 385 acres, but the change in weather on Monday and rain from over the weekend are helping with firefighting efforts.
“Crews took advantage of precipitation that significantly moderated fire behavior to build additional handline and dozer line along the fire’s perimeter,” the release said.
The Forest Service said that there is “a very low probability” of the fire spreading on Monday, and starting on Tuesday, the fire management team will return home and local Forest Service and emergency crews will take over. Updates from the Forest Service will also only be released every other day.
