Weather conditions in Arizona help Dragon Bravo Fire containment rise

Containment of the Dragon Bravo Fire on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park has increased to 18 percent, according to the latest update. This fire, which began on July 4, 2025, due to lightning, has burned 13,662 acres.

Today firefighters are working to strengthen containment lines before drier and hotter weather conditions arrive later this week. Officials said strategic backfiring operations along Forest Road 610 are being conducted to prevent the fire from spreading, with additional preparations underway to protect structures like the Kaibab Lodge, Roaring Springs Aquifer and historical landmarks.

Isolated showers and humidity helped firefighting efforts on July 21, but a dry spell is expected to begin July 23. Smoke remains visible from surrounding areas, including the South Rim, and residents and visitors should monitor local air quality conditions online.

Several closures remain in effect, including the North Kaibab Trail, South Kaibab Trail, Bright Angel Trail and its campground, Phantom Ranch campground, River Trail, and Tonto East.
