VIDEO: A fast-moving wildfire that ignited Sunday evening in the Klamath Hills just south of Klamath Falls has now grown to 285 acres, with fire crews struggling to contain the blaze amid challenging terrain and strong winds.
First reported around 5 p.m. Sunday, the Township Fire has zero percent containment as of Monday morning. Steep, rocky hillsides and gusty winds have complicated suppression efforts, but fire crews made progress overnight thanks to cooler temperatures that helped slow the fireโs spread.
Command of the incident was transferred Monday to the South-Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership. Fire crews are now focused on reinforcing containment lines and monitoring potential fire growth as conditions remain volatile.
โWe still can see rapid fire growth in these conditions,โ said Jennifer Case with the Oregon Department of Forestry. โYesterday it was super windy and warm, and you know, weโre still in it for a reason. So I do just urge the public that you know all burning is prohibited and just try to prevent anything that could spark a wildfire.โ
