NV Energy has teamed up with the University of Nevada, Reno, to expand the ALERTWildfire camera network, adding 53 new fire cameras across the state by the end of 2026.
The permanent installations include 35 cameras in Northern Nevada and 15 in Southern Nevada. The network will also feature three mobile cameras that can be deployed quickly during severe fire weather or active wildfires.
“The ALERTWildfire network is becoming more robust with every camera installation, and these new cameras fill critical coverage gaps throughout the state,” said Bill Savran, director of ALERTWildfire.
Of the 50 permanent cameras, 20 are short-range units designed for installation on powerline infrastructure in high-risk areas with limited visibility. The remaining long-range cameras will be placed on mountaintops to maximize coverage.
The expansion is part of NV Energy’s Power Safe NV initiative, which aims to strengthen wildfire mitigation and response.
The company has also added hazard awareness specialists to its team to improve situational awareness and enable faster, more targeted emergency responses.
