Firefighters navigate slick terrain battling 550-acre Cherry Fire in Utah

PHOTOS: Firefighters battling the Cherry Fire, now 15% contained, navigated unstable conditions on the mountain after Saturdayโ€™s storm.

The human-caused fire was mapped by officials on Sunday at 550 acres. Despite the rain, officials said there still have been significant areas of heat and smoke.

The fire ignited near Springville and Mapleton in Hobble Creek Canyon. An evacuation notice was issued on Thursday after the fire started.

Hazardous conditions from the rainfall on the mountain have increased chances of slips and falls, officials said. Firefighters have assessed the safest way to fight the fire to avoid rollouts from fire-loosened debris such as burned-out logs and rolling rocks.

Fire suppression includes checking for hot spots and mopping up remaining areas of heat, officials said. Firefighters have been focused on securing a perimeter and increasing containment.
