Firefighter dies in line of duty while fighting Dragon Bravo Fire in northern Arizona

A firefighter died in the line of duty while fighting the Dragon Bravo Fire in northern Arizona, officials say.

A firefighter who was actively involved in the suppression repair near the North Rim Entrance Station suffered a cardiac emergency, according to a news release. Rapid medical assistance was provided by a line paramedic, but the resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

“Our hearts go out to his family and friends. The wildland fire community is inherently interagency, and a line-of-duty death impacts us all,” the news release states. “We deeply appreciate this firefighterโ€™s dedication to his profession and to the communities threatened by wildland fire.”

Support is being provided to fellow professional wildland firefighters and friends on the Dragon Bravo Fire, the news release states. An investigation into the firefighter’s death is being conducted by the National Park Service in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
