Cram Fire in Central Oregon fully contained after burning 96,000 acres

PHOTOS: The Cram Fire, which ignited on July 13, has been fully contained, according to an update Sunday. The wildfire scorched nearly 96,000 acres, destroying two homes and threatening three others. The fire also destroyed 14 outbuildings such as barns, pump houses, workshops or sheds, according to officials. Incident Commander James Osborne and his team reported via the interagency incident information management website InciWeb that the fire, located 15 miles northeast of Madras, was officially 100% contained as of July 27. The blaze involved short grass, timber, and brush, with juniper, grass, and dense shrub fields contributing to its intensity and spread.

Fire behavior has significantly diminished, with only occasional creeping and smoldering in pockets of unburned fuels. “No spread or movement is expected,” the update stated, noting that minimal activity is confined to creeping and smoldering under juniper. The firefighting effort involved 232 personnel, who are now focused on mopping up and patrolling the perimeter. Excess supplies and equipment are being returned, and personnel numbers are being reduced to match the needs of remaining operation. Weather conditions have been favorable, with moist and cool overnight conditions aiding containment efforts. Temperatures peaked at 82-86 degrees, with humidity levels ranging from 23-32%.
