Magnitude 5.9 quake hits Guam, no tsunami threat to Marianas

An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.9 hit Guam around 5:37 p.m. Tuesday, based on information from the U.S. Geological Survey. Its epicenter was 192 km west-southwest of Malessoโ€™, at a depth of 66 km, USGS said. As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake.

There were no major damages or injuries for Guam reported from the earthquake, the Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense said in a statement. GSH/OCD officials remind the community that when an earthquake strikes, conduct the earthquake procedure, โ€œDrop, Cover and Hold Onโ€ until the shaking stops.
