โHe did what he loved,โ his wife Stephanie said. “He would have had it no other way.โ
Filiaggi passed away in 2024 from a heart attack while serving as chief of the Montgomery Fire Department. His son Michael serves as assistant chief and said not a day goes by where he doesnโt think of his father and former chief.
โIt was an honor to learn from the best,โ Michael said. “Theyโre big shoes to fill. Iโll never be able to fill them, but I try every day.โ
The Filiaggis, along with the Berkeley County Fire Department and War Volunteer Fire Department, honored their fallen brothers Lieutenant Jeremy Taylor and assistant chief Jeffery Dale Lawson, who died within the past year, with a ceremony at the Capitol Complex.
