VIDEO: Emergency medical responders in Raleigh County have received a boost in equipment funding to better serve residents throughout the area.
Members of the Raleigh County Commission approved over $90,000 in funding for local EMS members. Service providers have said some fail to consider the wear and tear of daily service on equipment and supplies. Captain Chris Graham with the Beckley Fire Department told 59News properly maintained gear and equipment is particularly important in medical service.
“It’s really important that we maintain our equipment and keep it up to date,” Captain Graham explained. “Especially with emergency medical services, so many things have an expiration date.”
The grant was approved by commission members after being initially issued on the state level. Raleigh County Commission President, Greg Duckworth, said funding is always needed for local EMS and commission members are always happy to be able to help providers in the area.
