Kanawha County family loses home in fire

A family of four in Institute lost their home after a fire broke out early Wednesday morning.

According to firefighters with the Institute Volunteer Fire Department, crews received a call from dispatch notifying them of a structure fire at the Fairlawn Mobile Home Park just before 3 am. When they arrived at the scene, they saw flames and heavy smoke coming from the living room.

The family residing in the mobile home was able to escape, and there are no injuries to report.

Nitro Fire Department and West Side Volunteer Fire Department assisted I.V.F.D with battling the flames, but the home is being considered a total loss.

Red Cross Red Shield has been notified of the incident, and will be assisting the impacted family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
