VIDEO: Some folks in the Mountain State are one step closer to becoming certified drone pilots.
Representatives from multiple emergency management districts are attending a five-day class in Lincoln County. This helps them prepare for the exam that will be the final step in their certification process.
Once certified, these pilots will be able to assist in things like search and rescue, disaster response and law enforcement efforts.
“It is very important to me, personally,” said David Crabtree, founder of the Appalachian UAV Academy. “The perception that people have of drones is to see drones doing good. We’re here to help, we’re here to keep people safer, we’re here to help communities, and we’re here to save lives.”
On top of disaster response and search and rescue operations, these drone pilots will also be able to assist with damage assessments, and delivering medication and food to people in remote areas and more.
