Firefighter’s Memorial 5K Held in Huntington

VIDEO: Racers who took to Ritter Park Sunday morning helped raise money to upgrade a memorial for fallen firefighters in front of the Huntington Fire Station.

The Huntington professional firefighter association said funds will also go to keep current firefighters safe.

Lieutenant Dustin Bumgardner is with the Huntington Professional Firefighter Association.

“We’ve got a memorial out in front of Station 1 and we wanted to upgrade it so we figured it would be a good opportunity to raise money for those line of duty deaths that are on that rock,” Bumgardner said.

The money raised is going to help firefighters in the department now. Bumgardner said whatever money is left will go to firefighter survival training and cancer screenings among other things.

He said this is the first year they held the event and hope to bring it back in the future.
