Fall Fire Season starts in West Virginia

VIDEO: The start of October kicked off Fall Fire Season in West Virginia, meaning fire experts around the state are urging people to remain cautious with all things fire.

Fall Fire Season, which lasts from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, imposes heavier restrictions on fire-related activities across the Mountain State. Nexstarโ€™s WBOY spoke with West Virginia State Fire Academy Director Mark Lambert about what people should think about during this time.

โ€œThe main thing is to be cautious and to use your common sense and not burn when the wind is blowing 50 miles per hour, or not burn when theyโ€™re saying itโ€™s bad conditions to burn. Just follow the rules, and if you think you shouldnโ€™t, then probably you shouldnโ€™t,โ€ Lambert said.

During Fall Fire Season, outdoor burning can only take place between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. Fires are also not to be left unattended and must be fully extinguished after use.
