Bridgeport Fire Chief retires after 3 decades of service

VIDEO: After 36 years with the department, Bridgeport Fire Chief Phil Hart is retiring.

A celebratory luncheon was held on Tuesday at the main station in Bridgeport and was attended by elected officials, first responders, as well as plenty of friends and family. Hart said that the time was right for him to step down in order to spend more time with his family.

โ€œWell, Iโ€™m excited that Iโ€™ve reached a point in my career that Iโ€™m able to retire and itโ€™s my decision to retire, but at the same time, itโ€™s bittersweet too. After spending 36 years here, itโ€™s gonna be a change,โ€ Chief Hart said.

Despite retiring, Chief Hart does still plan to spend some time at the department and heโ€™ll still run with the Belington Volunteer Fire Department as well.
