Bluefield Fire Department restores 1932 firetruck

VIDEO: Bluefield Fire Department is bringing a rolling artifact out of retirement.

In its garage, the department long has stored a firetruck purchased way back in 1932. Despite the truckโ€™s age, it still runs with appreciated assistance from Coleโ€™s auto shop.

The vintage truck only makes select cameos on special occasions, including parades and ferrying Santa Claus through town. The truck actively fought fires into the 1970s but is now a venerable Bluefield antique.

“โ€ŠI could only imagine how many hundreds of fires itโ€™s actually went to and worked at. I think 1977 was the last call it was on, and then it kind of went into kind of just sitting around. The last five years nobody has driven it. So, we just got it out probably about three weeks ago. Itโ€™s the first time itโ€™s been out in five years,” said Lieutenant Brandon Mckinney.

The fire department also keeps a vintage book showing the truck in action in 1935.
