VIDEO: Yakima County has introduced a new emergency response vehicle designed to strengthen its ability to respond to mass casualty incidents. The Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) truck is currently stationed at the Yakima County Resource Center and will be relocated to AMR Station 1 once its new facility is complete. The vehicle is fully equipped to provide immediate, on-site medical support during emergencies involving multiple victims.
A mass casualty incident is defined as any event that overwhelms local emergency resources, such as EMS and hospitals. These incidents are categorized based on the number of patients: Level One involves five or more individuals, Level Two includes 11 or more, and Level Three involves between 20 and 30 patients. Chase Tucker, a program representative, said the truck is meant to provide critical support in situations ranging from school bus crashes to fires and large public events.
