Firefighters across Washington State are rallying support to build a memorial honoring those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. To fund the project, they are introducing specialized vehicle plates dedicated to fallen firefighters. Chad Blaschill, a Kennewick firefighter and president of IAFF Local 1296, emphasized that “you don’t have to be a firefighter to support this… anybody can get this and support the fire department and fallen firefighters.” The initiative requires 3,500 signatures to proceed, and if successful, more than $20 of the annual vehicle registration fee for the specialty plates will contribute to the memorial’s construction and maintenance.
