Two people and a dog are recovering after a fire in a house’s basement Monday morning sent them running from the home, firefighters said. According to dispatch records, firefighters with Pasco Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on north 19th Avenue near west Richardson Street at about 8:46 a.m. on October 6. Firefighters said they arrived to find a fire burning in the basement of a home, which was cluttered with objects and spreading to the rooms above.
Firefighters said they were able to put out the fire with relatively little smoke damage to the house, and the structure should still be livable. According to PFD crews, two residents of the home were taken to the hospital with injuries related to smoke inhalation. Firefighters said one of the residents had run back into the burning building to rescue a dog that was inside, and the dog was taken to the veterinarian with smoke inhalation injuries as well. Firefighters were mopping up the fire by 9:40 a.m. and are investigating the cause.
