Washington State Route 14 reopened to traffic Thursday morning after brush fires in Skamania County prompted Level 2 โBe Setโ evacuation notices and closed the highway early Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, SR 14 is now open between Bridge of the Gods (Milepost 41) and SR 141 Spur (Milepost 63).
WSDOT said it was previously closed in both directions between Wind River Road (Milepost 47) and Collins State Pit (Milepost 55) just west of Cook-Underwood Road as a result of the brush fire. According to the Skamania County Sheriffโs Office and officials with Skamania County Emergency Management, the Level 2 โBe Setโ evacuation notice was issued for places between mile marker 47-55 on SR 14, in the Carson area to Dog Mountain.
The fires, dubbed the Grant Lake Fire near Dog Mountain and the Sand Hill Fire near Carson, prompted the evacuation notices from the Carson area to the Dog Creek Falls area, specifically in Carson with all areas east of Carson Smith Beckon Road and then the entire length north to south and all the way east to Dog Creek Falls area (Milepost 55).
So far, officials say the Grant Lake Fire has burned 10 acres while the Sand Hill Fire has burned 47 acres.
