VIDEO/PHOTOS: Four construction workers were injured when the roof of a new water tower collapsed in Taholah Tuesday afternoon, according to Quinault Indian Nation officials.
The incident occurred just before 2:30 p.m. as the workers were on the roof, which gave way, causing them to fall into the empty tank below. One worker became trapped in wet concrete, prompting Quinault Resources to initiate a rescue operation and request assistance from the Coast Guard.
A helicopter was dispatched from Astoria to aid in the rescue, while additional response teams from Grays Harbor County and Thurston County were also deployed. Two of the workers were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and are believed to be in critical condition.
The other two workers sustained less severe injuries and were transported to another hospital, though the location was not specified.Rescue efforts have concluded, and no injuries were reported among the rescue personnel.
