Lacey firefighters use tools, YouTube clip to help rescue cat

VIDEO: Lacey Fire District Three firefighters helped rescue a neighborhood stray cat trapped inside the walls of a home using an combination of medical equipment, rescue tools and a YouTube video. A Lacey man called 911 Oct. 22 after the cat, named Timmy, became stuck in his wall.

Fire investigators later discovered the feline had entered the home’s air ducts through the crawl space. Firefighter/EMT Dylan Harn said they could hear the cat in the walls, but had trouble pinpointing his exact location, even after using a stethoscope and thermal imaging camera.

“Sometimes it would make noises, it’d be at the bottom of the wall, and then we’d wait 10 minutes and we’d hear it somewhere else,” Harn said. Firefighter and EMT Andrew Anderson did what most people do when they’re stumped on a project. “I actually opened up Youtube and just found a cat noises video,” he said.
