Follow Up: South King fire engine struck on I-5 while responding to emergency

PHOTOS: A South King Fire engine was struck by a vehicle while responding to a rollover accident on southbound I-5, injuring several people and damaging the fire engine. The incident occurred at 6:58 a.m. as Engine 361 was providing safety blocking for the crash scene. The engineer inside Engine 361, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the fire engine and the original patient from the rollover accident were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Engine 361 was significantly damaged and was taken out of service. A reserve engine was immediately deployed to ensure continued emergency response capabilities in the community. South King Fire emphasized the dangers firefighters face on high-speed roadways and urged the public to slow down, pay attention, and move over when approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights.
