Firefighters save house after shop fire ignites haystack in Benton County

PHOTOS: Firefighters battled a large fire near Prosser early Monday morning. It happened around 1:44 a.m. on North Hosko Road. A person called 911 and reported their neighbor’s shop was on fire. Fire crews from West Benton Fire Rescue, Benton County Fire District Protection #2 and Benton County Fire District 1 arrived on scene to find the fire had spread to a large haystack near the shop.

The shop is a total loss but firefighters were able to save the property owner’s home. Fire officials said the haystack fire will continue to burn throughout the day and a crew will remain at the property to monitor the activity. No one was hurt. Authorities said a preliminary investigation showed it may have been heat lamps inside the shop that started the fire.
