Firefighters battling growing Labor Mountain Fire north of Cle Elum

Firefighters are working to contain a fire that is burning nearly 4,000 acres of woodland in a remote part of Kittitas County. The Labor Mountain Fire started in a mountainous forested area near the Chelan-Kittitas County line in the morning of September 1. The fire has since grown to burn about 3,934 acres and is 0% contained. Due to the remote location of the fire, no evacuation notices are in place. However, Forest Service roads in the area have been closed to the public to allow firefighters space to work. Firefighters said that in recent days, favorable weather conditions have aided their containment efforts. Firefighters have been engaging in controlled burns along the perimeter in an effort to establish containment lines. Firefighting planes have also been dropping water on the fire where needed.
