Fire damages Avista Stadium concessions building in Spokane

VIDEOS/PHOTOS: A fire broke out at Avista Stadium early this morning, affecting the concessions building next to the stadium. The fire started around 2:30 a.m. with flames visible and parts of the structure collapsing. The Spokane Fire Department is on the scene, reporting no injuries related to the incident. Due to the intensity of the blaze, fire crews had to allow the fire to burn through the roof before addressing it directly. Stadium officials, including the Indians senior vice president and the general manager, have expressed their feelings about the situation. They conveyed their emotions, saying, “Weโ€™re heartbroken,” as they watched the stadium, a local landmark, face significant damage.

With the baseball season ending, there are no more home games scheduled at the stadium. Despite the fire, the state fair nearby will continue as planned. Parking will remain accessible on the fairgrounds. Animals will not be relocated. Regional air quality is expected to worsen, especially for neighborhoods southwest of the stadium. This is due to wilds blowing from the northeast. The Spokane Indians released the following statement about the fire around 7 a.m.: “The main concession stand at Avista Stadium caught fire in the early morning hours Friday, September 5th. No one was injured, and the fire is contained to the main concession stand. Our many thanks to the City of Spokane Valley and the City of Spokane firefighters who have been on the scene early this morning. We will have more information as it becomes available.”
