Clarkston grass fire contained by Asotin County firefighters, homes spared

Asotin County firefighters were able to stop a grass fire that threatened several homes in Clarkston. According to Asotin County Fire District 1, the fire, which burned along Dustan Loop, started around 9 p.m. and spread through tall, dry grass. Firefighters quickly surrounded the flames, keeping the fire under one acre and preventing damage to nearby homes. โ€œWe were fortunate the wind had calmed down before this fire started,โ€ said Asotin County Fire District 1 Chief Noel Hardin. โ€œIf it had been two hours earlier, it would have been a whole different fire.โ€ Fire crews said no one was injured, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
