Asotin County firefighters were able to stop a grass fire that threatened several homes in Clarkston. According to Asotin County Fire District 1, the fire, which burned along Dustan Loop, started around 9 p.m. and spread through tall, dry grass. Firefighters quickly surrounded the flames, keeping the fire under one acre and preventing damage to nearby homes. โWe were fortunate the wind had calmed down before this fire started,โ said Asotin County Fire District 1 Chief Noel Hardin. โIf it had been two hours earlier, it would have been a whole different fire.โ Fire crews said no one was injured, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
