Burning car crashes into state trooper’s patrol vehicle on I-90 at Mercer Island

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A dramatic incident unfolded early Saturday morning on eastbound I-90 when a car, with one of its tires ablaze and fire trailing behind it, hit a WSP trooper vehicle. The Washington State Department of Transportation released video footage showing the scene around 1:30 a.m. on I-90 at Mercer Island. In the video, the car can be seen trundling along the road barrier with a rear wheel on fire, leaving flaming tire tracks on the pavement behind it. A state trooper can be seen pulling in front of the car in an attempt to bring it to a halt, only for the patrol vehicle to be rear-ended by the burning car. According to authorities, troopers on the scene tried to persuade the driver to exit the burning vehicle, but ultimately had to call firefighters for assistance. Law enforcement is still investigating the circumstances that led to the car being up against the barrier, the cause of the fire, and the current condition of the driver.
