Benton County Fire District #1 responded to a fire on Interstate 82 Wednesday afternoon. It happened just before 4 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 82 when fire crews responded to reports of a fire. Apple Valley News Now had a crew on scene who said visibility in the area was low due to large amounts of smoke.
Traffic was moving at a slower pace while the fire was active due to emergency vehicles on the shoulder and low visibility. According to incident command, the fire burned around 5 acres of land. Fire crews contained the blaze around a hour after arriving on scene. Fire crews will remain on scene to mop up hotspots for several hours.
