VIDEO: A 10-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were killed after a mobile home caught fire early Tuesday morning in Lacey, according to the Lacey Fire Department. A 44-year-old woman was taken to the hospital. Fire crews were called to the 3900 block of 21st Avenue Southeast to a report of a fire in a mobile home in the neighborhood. “The fire conditions were so extreme that it was not a space that we could enter,” explained Deputy Chief Michael Cerovski.
Crews attacked the blaze from outside, and once the flames were subdued, investigators made a tragic discovery. “Unfortunately they located two people deceased from the fire: one was a 10-year-old female and one was a 17-year-old male,” said Lt. Jaime Newcomb. The fire was out by around 4:30 a.m. Officials have not released the identities of the people who were killed, but Harbors Home Health & Hospice confirmed the woman, identified in a fundraiser as Sarah Bullington, is a member of their team and certified nursing assistant for hospice patients.
Lacey police are investigating, as is protocol when someone dies in a fire. A neighbor, Coleman Sexton, told KING 5 he woke up to a “snap, crackle, pop” noise at around 1:30 a.m. and looked outside to see the home engulfed in flames. The fire caused electricity to go in and out in the neighborhood. Sparks were flying from a metal fence due to a fallen power line.
