York County apartment complex evacuated after acid dump emergency

An apartment complex was temporarily evacuated Saturday evening in York County after witnesses saw a hazardous materials incident happen at the complexโ€™s dumpster. Personnel from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to a call reporting someone had dumped unknown chemicals into the dumpster at the Four Seasons apartment complex on Hampton Highway, after which the dumpster began emitting smoke. First responders located just under five gallons of acid inside the dumpster and temporarily evacuated the apartment complex, according to a news release from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety. Crews remained on the scene neutralizing the materials and cleaning up. A representative from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management Hazardous Materials Response Program was also on scene.
