Off-duty Chesterfield County firefighter dead after motorcycle crash

A 23-year-old off-duty Chesterfield County firefighter has died after a motorcycle crash Friday afternoon.

The afternoon of Friday, Nov. 7, 23-year-old Sammy Ershidat was driving a motorcycle east on W. Hundred Road, approaching Womack Road, when he collided with a white Nissan Altima pulling out from the Grand Oaks Apartments.

Ershidat was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

The unidentified driver of the Altima was taken to an area hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Ershidat was a career firefighter with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS. He was assigned to Engine 211 and worked the โ€œCโ€ shift at Fire Station 11, located on Iron Bridge Road. According to fire officials, he graduated from Recruit School 68 in 2024 and had been working as a firefighter for nearly two years.

โ€œWe are all saddened by the loss of Firefighter Sammy Ershidat, who was taken from us as his career as a firefighter had just begun,โ€ said Chesterfield Fire Chief Edward L. Senter, Jr., in a press release.
