Horse dead, four ponies rescued after barn fire in Albemarle County

A barn fire in Albemarle County resulted in the death of a horse on Tuesday evening.

Albemarle County Fire Rescue arrived to the blaze on Louisa Road near Gordonsville shortly after 8:30 p.m. and found the structure fully engulfed.

Crews contained the fire in less than an hour, but the barn was declared a total loss.

Bystanders evacuated four ponies before firefighters arrived. The horse was found deceased inside the barn.

The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, but says it does not appear suspicious.
