VIDEO/PHOTOS: A firefighter was hurt while battling an overnight fire in Suffolk. According to officials, crews were called to the 5900 block of Old College Drive just before 4 a.m. Monday for the report of a single-story residential structure fire. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke showing from the roof and fire showing from the garage of the structure. The fire in the garage began to spread to the living space and attic. Firefighters were able to limit the fire’s progression. The fire was placed under control at 4:48 a.m. One firefighter was hurt and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No occupants were injured. The two occupants were alerted by a working smoke alarm and evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival. They are now displaced but do not require assistance from the American Red Cross. 10 On Your Sideโs Michael Rinker said the couple who lived at the house had been there for around 20-25 years.
