Fire Chief Eggleston retires after decades serving Albemarle County

VIDEO: After 23 years with Albemarle County Fire Rescue, 40 on the job, and six total decades of firefighting, Chief Dan Egglestonโ€™s final day was Friday, October 31.

During his time with the department, Eggleston was known as a changemaker, in what he said is a profession dedicated to tradition.

โ€œWhen you show up for a position like this, you got to do your best to make it better than you found it,โ€ Eggleston said.

Eggleston said there is no question of what he is most proud of from his career and time as chief.

โ€œThe team,โ€ he answered, โ€œthat weโ€™ve been able to collect over the years and put together. Itโ€™s a mixture of a wide range of people that bring such talent to the organization. I think when we stop and look back at who we have, that too makes us great.โ€

Eggleston led the department through immense change.
