Eight Chesterfield County firefighters receive awards for rescues during Hurricane Helene

Eight Chesterfield firefighters have been recognized with Valor Awards on Wednesday after performing multiple rescues in southwest Virginia during Hurricane Helene in 2024.

In the morning on Wednesday, Dec. 10, eight Chesterfield County Fire and EMS firefighters were recognized with Valor Awards during the 35th annual Valor Awards Ceremony at the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

According to officials, the firefighters were deployed in southwest Virginia in the fall of 2024, where they carried out multiple rescues, helping people trapped by floodwaters.

The firefighters are also members of the Virginia Task Force 8 Urban Search and Rescue Team.

Back in April 2025, six Chesterfield firefighters were among 14 Virginia first responders who received Virginia National Guard Bronze Stars for their heroism during Hurricane Helene.
