Albemarle County celebrates graduating firefighters

VIDEO: Albemarle County Fire Rescue Recruit School held its graduation Thursday afternoon at Monticello High School, highlighting the work of its graduating firefighters. โ€œWeโ€™re going to put 22 new firefighters in the field to serve the community,โ€ said Heather Childress, Deputy Chief of Member Services at Albemarle County Fire Rescue. Weโ€™re always excited about that. We have some new service thatโ€™s going to start soon, in terms of a ladder truck and a new engine, so these new firefighters will help us put those trucks in service.โ€ ACFR says the graduating firefightersโ€™ training consisted of a multitude of subjects related to firefighting, from Emergency Medical Technician and firefighter survival skills to learning how to install a car seat. โ€œWe give them all the certifications they need to be fully functioning firefighter EMTs,โ€ Childress explained.
