Firefighters responded to a house fire Sunday morning in Suffolk that displaced four people, according to Suffolk Fire & Rescue.
The fire happened around 10:07 a.m. in the 100 block of North 8th Street. Crews arrived a minute later and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a single-story home.
Because of the volume of fire, firefighters identified nearby homes on the Bravo and Delta sides as potential exposure risks. Crews deployed hoselines outside to protect neighboring homes while deploying hoselines inside to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters searched the home and confirmed no one was inside. The fire was brought under control by 10:23 a.m.
The home suffered significant fire and smoke damage. A neighboring home on the Delta side sustained minor heat damage.
Four people were displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. No one was injured.
