Hundreds of first responders and community members attended a service at St. Michael’s College on Saturday, honoring former Colchester fire chief Sandy Ladd as he was laid to rest.
Chief Ladd was laid to rest behind the Colchester fire station following an envoy of 40-60 fire trucks. Firefighters, EMTs, police officers, friends and families all came together to honor his memory. Chief Ladd passed away at 61 years of age after a 2-year battle with cancer.
As chief of Colchester Center, he taught and trained for St. Mike’s Fire & Rescue, something his colleagues say is what he liked doing best.
One of Chief Ladd’s mottos was “you don’t need a title to be a leader.” His legacy lives on through the people he’s reached.
