VIDEO: A heartfelt memorial was held in Rutland County for a firefighter who died in the line of duty. Chittenden Fire Captain Charley Parker died of a heart attack after fighting a fire last July. Saturday, the Chittenden Volunteer Fire Department unveiled a memorial honoring his sacrifice and over 40 years of work.
Members of the department say they hope to honor his legacy with the marble memorial. “His shoes are impossible to fill, and we try everyday to live up to his memory and legacy that he left, but we know that we will never have another Charley Parker on this fire department,” Capt. Ryder Paskevich, of the Chittenden Volunteer Fire Dept. said. Parker was also honored at the 44th National Firefighters Weekend this past spring, along with 70 others who died in the line of duty last year.
