The southbound lanes on State Street between 900 South and 1300 South were briefly closed after a car caught fire. The Utah Department of Transportation first reported the car fire around 9 a.m.
Upon arrival, first responders could be seen on nearby traffic cameras blocking all three lanes of traffic while extinguishing the flames. During the closure, traffic was diverted toward Main Street around the scene.
Within 20 minutes, fire crews had put out the fire and reopened two of three lanes on State Street to through traffic. Details on what started the car have not been released. No injuries have been been reported. As of 9:45 a.m., emergency crews remained on scene, blocking the right most lane. No estimate has been provided on when the road would fully reopen.
