New fire start: Diamond Canyon Fire burning in Grand County

A new fire, called the Diamond Canyon Fire, has started in Grand County, and has reached 20 acres, so far, according to the latest information published by the Utah Bureau of Land Management. Crews say they responded to a new fire start in the Book Cliffs area, near Diamond Canyon in Grand County. According to officials, the fire started due to a lightning strike. Fire crews, which included a Helitack crew and smokejumpers, immediately responded. Smokejumpers are specially trained firefighters who parachute into remote areas, according to the U.S. Forest Service. These teams have dropped fire retardant, which have helped slow the fireโ€™s spread. At this time, Smokejumpers are in command of the fire.
