‘I’ve been very blessed’: Saratoga Springs Fire Chief set to retire, speaks on years of service

VIDEO: After four decades of service, the Saratoga Springs Fire Chief will be retiring. Saratoga Springs Fire Chief Kess Campbell announced this week that he will be retiring on October 30, 2025. He has worked as the fire chief for the past 14 years, and he previously worked with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue for 25 years.

โ€œIโ€™ve been very blessed to have the career that I have had,โ€ Chief Campbell said about his time in Las Vegas and Saratoga Springs, โ€œitโ€™s just been an amazing transformation to be a part of. The organization when I got here had 6 full-time employees and about 54 part-time firefighters and we have, over the years, been able to absolutely reverse that.โ€

According to Campbell, the city now has 41 full-time firefighters serving the expanding Saratoga Springs area, as well as โ€œa handfulโ€ of part-time employees.

Campbell emphasized that the Saratoga Springs Fire Department will be in good hands after his retirement. Deputy Fire Chief Kenny Johnson, who has served alongside Campbell for 11 years, will be stepping in as Interim chief until they find a permanent replacement.
