Gas leak in Lehi neighborhood forces elementary school evacuation

PHOTOS: Traverse Mountain Elementary School was evacuated Tuesday morning following reports of a gas leak in a nearby neighborhood, according to the Alpine School District. District officials confirmed that all students and staff were safely relocated to Eagle Summit Park, where they were supervised by teachers and staff.

All students have been accounted for, according to the district. The Alpine School District shared that it would take hours to go back into the building based on an updated timeline from the Lehi Fire Department. The district said their staff will help coordinate student pick-up under the pavilion at Eagle Summit Park.

“To avoid traffic congestion, please walk to the park to pick up your child. If you need to drive, please park away from the park and walk the rest of the way to pick up your student,” the update from the school district read. The district said if any parent or emergency contact with proper ID can’t pick up the students, they will be supervised and provided with meals until the end of the day.
