Electric vehicle fully engulfed in flames burns for over an hour in Davis County

PHOTOS: An electric vehicle burned for over an hour at a dealership in the Woods Cross area in late November, prompting a cautious response from firefighters. The South Davis Metro Fire – which serves the Bountiful valley, including Woods Cross, Centerville and North Salt Lake – posted to social media about the fire on Thursday evening.

The car had become fully engulfed in flames and posed a “unique risk” to firefighters as the batteries entered into the “thermal runaway,” according SDMF. Crews worked quickly to pull the engulfed vehicle away into an open area to protect nearby cars and structures.

Firefighters eventually buried the car in sand to help safely extinguish the flames. Investigators believe the fire was likely started due to a mechanical failure, but did not provide more information. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
