Firefighters are responding to a nearly 90-acre wildfire that started early Tuesday in an area north of the University of Utah. Dubbed the Dry Creek Fire, the blaze was mapped at 89 acres Tuesday afternoon following substantial rainfall, according to officials at Utah Fire Info. No structures are threatened at this time, but fire officials are asking the public to stay away from the City Creek area, as well as trails along the foothills behind City Creek, Dry Creek and the Avenues.
Multiple ground and air resources are responding to fight the fire, according to Utah Fire Info. Salt Lake fire officials said the fire is approximately 2 miles north of the University of Utah, but due to the rough terrain, resources are currently unable to reach it on foot. The fire is on state land and is burning light vegetation, Utah Fire Info officials said. Their afternoon update stated that forward spread of the fire had stopped, and crews were reinforcing lines. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials are asking that no drones be flown in the area, as they impede the firefighters’ ability to work.
