VIDEOS: Responders work to contain fire at Woodville tire recycling plant after lightning strike

PHOTOS: Crews from 36 different fire departments across East Texas responded to a fire at a tire recycling plant near Woodville Saturday. Tyler County emergency responders at the scene said they were called around 2 p.m., after lightning struck a tree.

They said fire spread from the tree to “several acres” of bundled tires nearby. Beech Grove VFD, Jasper Fire, Batson Fire, Livingston Fire and Spurger VFD are only some of the departments assisting in response. Beech Grove VFD said the location did not have a water supply for fire protection since it was outside the city of Woodville. Fire departments from every adjacent county were called for mutual aid and tanker support for this reason, the VFD said. The Tyler County Emergency Management Office said traffic was being rerouted from US Highway 69 to CR 1040 as of about 3:45 p.m. so emergency vehicles could access the site.
