VIDEO: 2 children die in townhouse fire; adults hurt trying to reach them, Houston FD says

Two young children were killed and two adults were hurt in a tragic townhome fire late Wednesday in the Greenspoint area, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched just after 11 p.m. to a condo community on Casa Grande Drive, across from Evelyn Thompson Elementary, where they arrived to find one of the units fully engulfed in flames.

HFD said a woman and an older man were found outside the burning unit. The man โ€” identified by HFD as the childrenโ€™s grandfather โ€” suffered severe burns after trying to go back inside to rescue the children. Both adults were rushed to Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center.

Once crews made it inside, they found two children who were unable to make it out and died in the fire, officials said. About 60 firefighters responded to battle the heavy flames as they worked to save lives and prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.

โ€œOur Houston firefighters take this pretty hard,โ€ HFD Chief Thomas Munoz said. โ€œThis is a hard day, especially when it involves children.โ€ HFD said its Critical Incident Stress Management team is supporting firefighters who were on scene.
