The Tyler City Council on Wednesday voted in favor of allowing the Tyler Fire Department to apply for a grant for chemical detection equipment. The grant is worth $101,086.80. The equipment would be used by the fire departmentโs Regional Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Hazardous Materials Response Team. These groups serve Tyler and 14 surrounding counties in East Texas and assist agencies statewide when needed. Tyler Fire Department formed an EOD team in 2018 and was accredited through the FBI in 2020 as the region’s first Public Safety Bomb Team. The team performs detection, identification, recovery, disarmament and disposal of explosive devices.
